Oh no, she's leaving!

There is a new wave of Executive Directors retiring as the Great Recession slowly wanes.  This allows organizations to revisit their needs in an Executive Director.  This may take time, while the pressure to keep the CBO running builds. A Board member stepping in as an interim E.D. often is not best for the organization's staff or business.  So what can you do?  Determine how an Interim E.D. can help the Board assess the operational needs and not stagnate while recruiting.  Allow yourself enough time to find the right person to meet the future confidently by hiring an experienced interim E.D.

Are you ready with outcome data for grants?

Now even foundations and corporations, not just government, are asking for outcome data in grant proposals.  The outputs or activities you conduct are just the first step to showing your worth to the community.  Have you considered how to use that information to measure the outcome to those you serve?  What do you need to put in place to show your true value?

Are retreats worth it?

Usually, but it depends on your goals.  When you look at what you want to accomplish, is a large group the most effective?  If you want to build a greater sense of cohesion, build motivation and understanding of future direction, then retreats are a great tool.  It is often ideal to include Board and at least some staff together.
